It’s that time of year again!
No, not pancake day! Saint Valentine’s Day of course!
The day upon which tall, dark and handsome young men take their beloved to the perfect romantic location (I’m thinking a Paris hotel balcony with the Eiffel Tower twinkling away in the background), get down on one knee and ask for her fair hand in marriage. Okay, it doesn’t go down like that for most of us, but good old valentine’s day does see a spike in engagements.
And that means we get a whole host of new brides-to-be running around with their heads full of wedding planning. Do we want a Church wedding or a registry office? Do we want traditional wedding invitations or something funky? Do we invite Great Aunt Kathleen or will mean we have to also invite Uncle Bob (the family black sheep)? And what the heck do we do about the venue ? (Well, you book at Ashover Parish Hall Events Centre of course, a fabulous wedding venue near Chesterfield, but how great we are isn’t the topic of this blog…)
Saying ‘I do’ may bring a feeling of security and restfulness. Your life is mapped, sussed, sorted. With your one-and-only you will breeze through life’s milestones with ease. But first you have to plan a wedding, and that ain’t easy.
The problem with planning a wedding is that are so many decisions and so much choice. You could spend your life visiting bridal boutiques only to end up going back to the first dress you saw. The biggest fear is finding something you like better AFTER you have already ordered something, be it a dress, a photographer or a cake. You could go on forever if you give into THE FEAR!
These days we can view thousands of different styles and ideas with a tap of a touchscreen and it can easily become overwhelming.
The best way to deal with this is to set yourself limits. Agree an amount of different dress shops to visit. Set a list of cake makers and caterers, visit/sample them and, unless you hate all of them, make a choice and stick to it – don’t get drawn into the search for something even better or you’ll end up going round in circles. If you are local to Derbyshire / Chesterfield area, check out our list of recommended suppliers. Everyone on the list has been recommended by our past wedding couples.
One of the best ways to do wedding shopping is wedding fayres. What more could you want? You get a variety of different suppliers all under one roof. You can compare products easily, chat to the business owners, speak to other brides, share experiences and have a good day out thrown into the bargain!
It may be an idea to pick a few local wedding fayres to visit. If you start going crazy and going to a fayre every weekend you will likely only find the same stall holders in attendance anyway. So circle the ones you fancy from our list below, grab your girlfriends, get your clipboard ready (if you’re that type of person) and get ready for wedding heaven. Good luck.
